Being Who You Are

“Being holy simply means being who you are.” – James Martin, SJ

Father James Martin, SJ is a favorite author of mine; I can’t wait to finally meet him in person in May when he is the keynote speaker at Spring Enrichment.

I love this quotation from him because it reminds me that we are all called by name by God. God has loved us into being and I believe that our faith journey in Christ is to become that person that God has loved into being. So being holy must mean that we must be who we are.

So simple. Yet not, at times. For me – most times.

What do you think? What does being holy mean to you? Do you think it means being who you are?

  1. Exactly what I needed, today, Fran. Thanks!

  2. Fran – I agree. I am reading Matthew Kelly’s re-discover catholicism and he points out that holiness is being the best version of ourselves. I think it makes sense.

  3. Fran, like a lot of us, I am on a journey to myself, a pilgrimage to the center of Godde’s heart.
Will ever find who I am, I hope so. I have no doubt that I will find someone beautiful, since Godde does not make junk. I am just not there yet.
This is a great post! Thank you

  4. “Being holy simply means being who you are.” – James Martin, SJ

……a very hopeful statement, for it means (to me) that we are created holy and to “be holy” is to let fall away those impediments that we fall prey to ….that we must open our hearts and minds and arms and accept our inheritance. I say, “thank you, Fran,” for the reminder….
