Saturday Song

Today we remember the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. I have been fortunate to travel to so many places around the world and to more than one Marian shrine, but how my heart longs to travel to Lourdes. (I have been to Czestochowa and to Medjugorje.)  So as we remember this beautiful story, let us see this video and hear the music of the famous candlelight procession to the Grotto.

When I was a little kid, I loved, loved, loved the movie, Song of Bernadette. I read the book too, as soon as I was old enough to read at that level. Oh my gosh, if videos were available at that time, I would have watched it non-stop!  I loved all the great Catholic movies of my childhood; I was born in 1957, so you can do the math. Going My Way, The Bells of St. Mary’s, The Nun’s Story, The Singing Nun, Song of Bernadette,  The Sound of Music, Lillies of The Field, The Robe, Come to the Stable. I loved the comedies too – like The Trouble With Angels and Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows.

What about you? Do you have favorite Catholic films?

Here is an excerpt from The Song of Bernadette.

  1. This is beautiful, Fran. I went on a pilgrimage to Lourdes and Fatima with my mother and sister over 25 years ago and it was an awesome experience. This is also an important day for our parish since it was at Lourdes when Mary said to Bernadette, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Thank you for sharing with us.
